Bury EST held a conference for local employers at the Village
Hotel in Bury on May 28th. The conference was opened by Mark Saunders
(pictured right), Chief Executive of Bury MBC. Over 60 people attended
the full day conference and attended a range of workshops presented
by staff from Bury EST, Jobcentre Plus and the Disability Rights
Commission.

The main speaker for the day was Philip
Friend (left), a nationally renowned trainer and commentator
on disability issues. Philip has
advised companies such as B&Q on policy issues and is an
Associate of the Employers Forum on Disability. Philip also
presented a workshop
on reasonable adjustments and best practice.
Huw Davies of Bury
EST presented a workshop on increasing the capacity of human
resources
managers to recruit and retain staff from disadvantaged
backgrounds effectively.

The conference launched a new Employer Forum on Diversity which is
to be facilitated by Bury EST.The Forum will bring together employers
to identify and share best practice in managing a diverse workforce.
