Learning Disability Today - June 2005 The team went along to the annual Learning Disability Today Conference and Exhibition at Manchester's International Conference Centre Joint AfSE and NASE Conference The first joint conference of AfSE and NASE was held in April 2005 Embracing the Mind In March 2005 we exhibited at the Mind Annual Exhibition and Conference. Job Centre Plus Consultation Event On February 16th 2005 Bury EST held a meeting with service users, JCP Business managers, Job Centre managers and staff to comment on service quality and make recommendations for improvements. Recruiting Diversity - What Works? In February, Embracing Diversity attended the conference in London Chartered Institute of Personnel Development Annual Conference and Exhibition In October 2004, both Bury EST and Stockport Employment Services attended the Annual Conference under the Embracing Diversity banner. Launch of Equal 2 On Tuesday 30th March 2004 members of Stockport's Employment Services and Bury MBC took part in the launch of Equal 2. Debating the Act - 2 Around 150 people attended the London Conference to participate in discussion and hear presentations from the DfES, Connexions and Embracing Diversity's Paula Duffy. Hundreds turn out for Young Jobseekers' event More than 200 people braved the British weather to make the second Young Jobseekers' Event at the Grand Central Leisure Complex a success, and to tell us their views on education, training and work. Embracing Diversity Attends National Conference Members of the Embracing Diversity team attended a national diversity conference to represent the unique work carried out by the project, its employers and employment officers. Annalie Burns and Michael Foley tell us more. Embracing Diversity at Coventry Care Leavers' seminar October 2003 marked the second annual National Care Leaver's Week with the theme "Barriers to Work." The middle of the week saw a seminar take place in the Midlands bringing together professionals and care leavers to discuss the barriers and to share good practice. Our very own Paula Duffy, who works especially with young care leavers, got a prestigious invite to speak. Conference Presentations Fred Bowen and Huw Davies have made presentations about EmbracingDiversity at two conferences this Spring. On May 15 Fred presented at the annual conference of the Association for Supported Employment in Nottingham; while on May 23 they made a very well received presentation to the European Union of Supported Employment in Helsinki. Diversity in Action! This local employer conference was held at the Village Hotel, Bury on 28th May 2002. The event was promoted by Bury EST, with financial assistance from the European Social Fund, and was supported by the Employment Service and Bolton Bury Chamber of Commerce. More information.
