Stockport Employer Network

Stockport Council’s Employment Services facilitates the Stockport Employer Network. This consists of a number of large regional and national companies, which provide a range of job opportunities and have bases in Stockport or in areas that are easily accessible for Stockport residents. Employer Network meetings are held regularly, and include a networking breakfast, presentations and discussion.

There are two networks operating: The Stockport Employer Network and Bury’s Employer Forum on Diversity.

Working alongside HR professionals, managers and teams we offer advice on recruitment issues, and general organisational policies and procedures. We also work through possible creative solutions and simple adjustments to overcome identified barriers. As part of the project we bring employers together to share learning. These action learning groups analyse their joint experiences looking for best practice and ways to influence culture and attitudes throughout the organisations.

The team acts as a link between unemployed people from a range of diverse backgrounds and employers, and supports them to learn from the experience. We also work with many referrers and help build relationships between the referrers and employers.

We have extensive experience of supporting individuals that are disadvantaged to gain employment. Stockport’s Supported Employment agency “Work Link” was set up in 1986 and has a national reputation as a successful service that has developed ways to place people who are at extreme disadvantage in the labour market. Through the Equal initiative we are developing a Human Resource Management approach to supported employment. Our aim is to build capacity and empower companies to lead this model.
